Rating The Channel One Anchors

November 12, 2001

There are eight anchors at Channel One. These are young people who schoolchildren
have to watch each day because of the Channel One contract. These on-air personalities
are the "face" of Channel One. They are the facade. These are the "pretend reporters".
No matter how bad they are their audience is locked-in. Over the years, many
of these Channel One reporters have become the subject of fan clubs created
by the young people who start their day with Channel One. Student support for
Channel One comes mainly from younger middle school students.

We will look at each anchor over the course of the next few months. Channel One
puts out very little information about their anchors. Obligation feels that
these young people need a spotlight to stay on them. Few parents know who is
speaking to their child every day from Hollywood.

We will first look at the Channel One anchor that has become a fixture at
their Hollywood studio.

Krystal Greene – It appears Ms. Greene is stuck at Channel One.
She has been at C1 the longest of any of the current anchors.

Channel One keeps the ages of the anchors secret.  C1 wants students
to think of the anchors as their peers. If students knew these anchors were
in their twenties, they might not like them as well.  That is why Channel
One will only give the month and day of the anchors birth. Ms. Greene must
be in her mid to later twenties.

Ms. Greene, who is African-American, has no problem with the fact that Channel
One disproportionately robs minority schoolchildren of school time. Obligation
has sent her emails to try to get her to comment on what Channel One is doing
to minority students, but we have never received a reply from Ms. Greene.

Greene reads her teleprompter as well as any on the show but has a habit of
acting goofy. She will often sign on with a "Hey, Hey, Hey" in an
attempt to sound hip and cool.

Krystal Greene

Goofy Factor:
C
Tries to relate to ten-year-olds.  Doesn’t work.
Intellectual Factor:
B
Probably smarter than most of the anchors.
Ethical Factor:
D-
Minority children are suffering by losing school time while Krystal is
hauling in the cash. Shameful. Also, she appears to really enjoy celebrity
guest hosts sharing her duties even though this violates journalistic standards.
Overall:
C

Obligation has viewed over six years of Channel One shows.
