Punk Rock Day on Channel One News

September 26, 2002

Every Thursday, unknown to virtually all parents, Channel One News has their “All-Request Thursday”. This is the day that students get to pick the music that Channel One News plays on the air. On the other days of the week Channel One’s staff gets to pick out their favorite rock and rap artists to put on the show.

Today, September 26, Channel One News had a Special Edition broadcast that featured only student’s favorite punk rock artists. The classrooms with Channel One were filled with punk rock music. (They usually play parts of six to eight songs per All Request Thursday shows.)

Jim Metrock said, “What an insult to the teachers who have to sit there and put up with this garbage.. The image of students trying to study and their teacher standing by as she plays punk rock music, or allows it to be played, for the students is a pitiful thing to contemplate. Unfortunately, a teacher in a school with Channel One is used to being degraded by this advertising gimmick.”
