ANOTHER Movie Promotion On Channel One News

March 29, 2004

Talking about movies, it is getting
dumb and dumber at Channel One News. Why is Channel One continuing to
advertise movies during school time? The company is under intense scrutiny
in numerous states, yet Channel One gives its many critics more ammunition
by promoting movies like "Scooby Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed."

Jim Metrock, president of Obligation said, "Can
you imagine how utterly degraded a teacher must feel when this nonsense
comes on the classroom TV. For a moment, public school teachers become
unpaid employees of Warner Brothers movie studio. ‘Keep those students
quiet so they can hear our sales pitch for Scooby Doo 2.’ This pathetically
lame content on Channel One is one reason why the overwhelming majority
of U.S. secondary schools have rejected Channel One News."

Channel One News is directing children to their web site
where they are running a contest for the movie. They are dangling a
limo ride and cash in front of kids to get them excited about the movie.
Channel One also heavily advertised the first Scooby-Doo movie. A lot
of school time has been wasted promoting movies. What does "Scooby
Doo" have to do with education? What does Channel One News have
to do with education?
