The Used

June 11, 2007

From Jim Metrock:

I apologize for the content of this article. It is awful stuff. Bus Radio continues to promote raunchy music groups on its web site. I don’t know if Bus Radio is playing any bleeped out versions of this band’s songs on their bus broadcast. The company continues to stonewall any request for their playlist. The public is in the dark. (That is reason enough for school boards to reject Bus Radio.)

First, let me introduce you to a vile rock band named "The Used." They have been around for five years. Here are samples of their lyrics. You can type "The Used lyrics" in any search engine and check this group out yourself.

"Liar, Liar (Burn In Hell)"

Liar liar pants on fire
Liar liar stop yourself from catching
Fire fire god and maker
Liar liar you f***ing liar

Liar liar pants on fire
Liar liar stop yourself from catching
Fire fire god and maker
Liar liar you f***ing liar
You f***ing liar
Liar liar you f***ing liar
Liar liar you f***ing liar
Liar liar you f***ing liar

Liar liar pants on fire
Hanging from a telephone wire

"All That I’ve Got"

I guess, I remember every glance you shot me
Unharmed, I’m losing weight and some body heat
I squalled so hard
I stopped your heart from beating
So deep that I didn’t even scream, so f*** me.

Here’s another:

"Choke Me"

You’re so crazy [3x]
Enough in a way that I’ll probably say you destroyed me

It’s like a f***ing drug deal
I’m sitting here waiting
I’m calling you back
and you won’t call me back
and it’s f***ed up, but at the same time it just made me want you even worse.

For awhile I was cleaner than now
Then I started to destroy myself
With things that I love now the things that I hate
Until it finally broke me

You’re so crazy [3x]
Enough in a way that I’ll probably say you destroyed me

F*** my ass [x2]
Choke me [x3]

More than a few of their songs deal with suicide:

"Poetic Tragedy"

The cup is not half empty as pessimists say
As far as he sees, nothing’s left in the cup
A whole cup full of nothing for him to indulge
Since the voice of ambition has long since been shut up

A singer, a writer, he’s not dreaming now of going nowhere
He gave heed to nothing, and all that he was…
Is just a tragedy

So he voyages in circles
Succeeds getting nowhere
And submits to the substance
That first got him there, there, there, there…

Then in violent, frustration, he cries out to God or just no one
Is there a point to this madness and all that he was…
Is just a tragedy

He feels alone
His heart in his hand
He’s alone
He feels alone
I feel…

Then on that last day he breaks
And he stood tall
And he yelled, and he yelled…

and he takes his life

OK, you have an idea of the dark and profane type of music you might hear on if you listened to this band. Here’s where Bus Radio comes in – they are promoting this band to young people on their web site. We have no idea if they are playing any songs on their broadcast. Bus Radio says their playlist is nobody’s business. But it is bad enough for Bus Radio’s radio show to repeatedly encourage young people to visit their web site when they get home and there they are encouraged to go out and buy this type of music.

Here is an article on Busradio.com that promotes The Used:

Below is the continuation of the article above.

Bus Radio supplies kids a link to this band’s web site and to their Myspace page. (Parents may never know why their children are going to such sites.)

Bus Radio employees know The Used is well known for their raunchy lyrics and yet they still post these articles. (A parental warning on the cover is totally voluntary. Notice the cover below for Lies for the Liars. On this CD The Used record company elected not to put a sticker on the cover.)

Above: A "Parental Advisory – Explicit Content" sticker is on this CD. Whether there is a sticker or not, all of The Used’s CDs contain explicit content.

Below: Bus Radio’s article calls this band’s new CD "amazing." Bus Radio will often have people outside the company write articles for their web site. This article was approved by Bus Radio. This shows how reckless they are with other people’s children.

This Bus Radio-endorsed band is bad news for kids and parents. If there is any doubt about the inappropriateness of Bus Radio promoting this music act check out a picture of iTunes list of songs by The Used:
