Flagship Sunk

January 14, 2008

Channel One used to have "Flagship" schools. These were schools that were very loyal to Channel One.

One such school was Bartow High School in Bartow, Florida.

Two years ago, Bartow decided they didn’t have time anymore for a full showing of Channel One News. They allotted ten minutes for their student produced news show and the 12 1/2 minute Channel One News program. Channel One couldn’t complain because Bartow was one of their few remaining "loyal" schools in Florida.

Below is the Bartow bell schedule from two years ago.

Below is the current Bartow High bell schedule which shows Channel One News has been eliminated completely. They are now only showing the school broadcast called YJP News.

Obligation’s Jim Metrock said, "Channel One has to know that schools like Bartow High are no longer showing their TV show. U. S. schools don’t have any extra time in their day to waste with Channel One News. This is the reality of Channel One News: schools are not watching. Bravo to Bartow’s administration and school board for removing Channel One News from their high school classrooms."
