Hinder

May 15, 2008

This is the cover of "Extreme Behavior" by Hinder.

Be warned the following songs contain sexual content, profanity, and alcohol references. Don’t worry, NONE of the following lyrics were played on BusRadio. Why then put this stuff on our website? Read on.

From the song "Get Stoned"

You wear me out
But it’s all right now
Lets go home and get stoned
We could end up making love instead of misery
Go home and get stoned
Cause the sex is so much better when you’re mad at me
You wear me out (We could end up making love instead of misery)
But it’s all right now
Without a doubt
The break up is worth the make up sex you’re giving me
Lets hash it out
Cause your bitchin and your yelling don’t mean anything
Don’t count me out
I can handle all the baggage that you’re carrying
You wear me out
But it’s all right now
Let’s go home and get stoned

Lets go home and get stoned
Lets go home and get stoned
Lets go home and get stoned
Lets go home and get stoned

From the song "Room 21"

She said nice to meet you
But she didn’t tell me her name
With red lipstick and pale pink boots
This bitch just blew me away
Cocktails later
She said to me
Don’t be late
And heres my key
Wanna know what happened next
Take a wild guess
I stumbled up the stairs
To room 21

I walked in and saw her on the bed
There was nothing to be said
When we were done
She said she loved the taste of my oh oh oh
When I came to the next morning
There were cigarettes put out on the floor
Her panties hanging from the doorknob
She left me craving more
I swear to God you’d feel the same
If you got used by what’s her name
Wanna know what happened next
Well take a wild guess
I stumbled out the door
Of room 21

I walked out with her in my head
Cant remember a damn thing she said
Except when we were done
She said she loved the taste of my oh oh
She said nice to meet you
I never forget a face
Here we go again
I cant wait
I’m gonna get used by whats her f****** name
Wanna know what happened next
Well take a guess
I stumbled out of the door
Of room 21

I walked out with her in my head
Cant remember a damn thing she said
Stumbling out the door
Of room 21
(Here we go again)
Room 21
(Here we go again)
Room 21
(Here we go again)
Room 21
(Here we go again)

She said nice to meet you
But she didn’t tell me her name

From the song "How Long"

She said she wants to be friends
I took a big step back
She said
She said
She said she’s sorry
With one finger
I said f*** that

From the song "Bliss"

(I don’t wanna know)
(I don’t wanna know)
(I don’t wanna know)
I’ll go ahead and pour myself a drink
I really couldn’t care less what you think
Well I don’t have to listen now
Live this day down
If I can’t feel a thing
You might as well save your goodbyes
We can give this train wreck one last ride
I’m gonna have to listen now
Live this day down
If I don’t make things right
I’ll tell you one last time

I don’t wanna know it’s over
So save your goodbye kiss
I don’t wanna know it’s over
Cause ignorance is bliss
I can hardly see
What’s in front of me
Cause the vodka’s running on empty
I can’t stay sober
If it’s over
(I don’t wanna know)
(I don’t wanna know)
(I don’t wanna know)
So save your goodbye kiss
(I don’t wanna know)
(I don’t wanna know)
(I don’t wanna know)

I woke up with my heartbeat in my head
I reached for the bottle by the bed
I saw your side was not slept in
Cold sheets again
Remind me of what you said
We need to take a break for a while
It’s been so long since I smiled
I don’t wanna listen now
Live this day down
With you so drunk and high
So I’ll say goodbye

I don’t wanna know it’s over
So save your goodbye kiss
I don’t want to know it’s over
Cause ignorance is bliss
I can hardly see
What’s in front of me
Cause the vodka’s running on empty
I can’t stay sober
If it’s over

I don’t wanna know it’s over
So save your goodbye kiss
I don’t wanna know it’s over
Cause ignorance is bliss
Now I know I can’t stay sober
Cause you left me here like this
I don’t wanna know
(I don’t wanna know)
(I don’t wanna know)
(I don’t wanna know)
So save your goodbye kiss
(I don’t wanna know)
(I don’t wanna know)
(I don’t wanna know)
Cause ignorance is bliss
I can hardly see
What’s in front of me
Cause the vodka’s running on empty
I can’t stay sober
If it’s over
If it’s over
I don’t wanna know
If it’s over
If it’s over
I don’t wanna know

From the song "Bed of Roses"

Sitting here wasted and wounded
at this old piano
Trying hard to capture
the moment this morning I don’t know
‘Cause a bottle of vodka
still lodged in my head
And some blonde gave me nightmares
think that she’s still in my bed
As I dream about movies
they won’t make of me when I’m dead

With an ironclad fist I wake up
and French kiss the morning
While some marching band keeps
its own beat in my head
While we’re talking
About all of the things that I long to believe
About love and truth
what you mean to me
And the truth is baby you’re all that I need

I wanna lay you down in a bed of roses
For tonight I sleep on a bed of nails
Oh, I wanna be just as close as the Holy Ghost is
And lay you down on bed of roses

You’ll never hear these lyrics on BusRadio. BusRadio would never in a million years make the mistake of allowing lyrics like these to be heard by any young person.

These songs however have some things in common. First, they are from a band called Hinder. Second, they are all from a CD called "Extreme Behavior." You can see where the title comes from.

Now this afternoon, May 15, 2008, I was surprised to see on BusRadio’s webcast that they had played a Hinder song on school buses.

The name of the song played on BusRadio is "Lips of an Angel."

I’ve got good news and bad news for parents and educators.

OK, the good news first: This is a clean song. It is about a man answering a phone call from an ex-girlfriend while his present girlfriend is in the other room.

The bad news is – and I think you see this coming – BusRadio pulled this song off the "Extreme Behavior" CD. Yipes! That is so wrong. Kids who hear this clean song will want to buy this Hinder CD. That is the whole point of music being played on a radio station. Each song is an advertisement for itself, the CD it came from, and the artist or group that performs the song.

What are the BusRadio executives in Needham, Massachusetts thinking?

Do they think this is going to be acceptable to parents? Do they think this is what school board members wanted for their students when they signed up with BusRadio?

This is another ugly example of BusRadio’s policy of playing "clean" or "cleaned-up" songs from "dirty" CDs performed by notoriously "dirty" artists.

Here’s the proof. A snapshot of BusRadio replaying what they played on the bus.

On iTunes "Lips of an Angel" gets an "explicit" label, but it’s probably because of the entire context of the CD.

If BusRadio’s sales rep tells your school board that they actually took the song "Lips of an Angel" off the "clean" version of "Extreme Behavior," then here is the cover of the CD your kids will ask for next time you go shopping. Can you tell the one difference in the two covers? Don’t over think this one. It’s real easy.
