EF Educational Tours Invades Classrooms

A new advertiser has popped up on Channel One News.

(Above) EF Educational Tours of Boston is currently running 30-second commercials on the program. (Below) They also are embedding their ads in the “news” segment. A “pop quiz” is “presented by” the company.

The “pop quiz” of course has to tie into EF’s product so the quiz has to be a “geo-pop quiz.” Geography is now connected to a sponsor. This is the “new journalism” practiced for years by Channel One. “Pay us enough and we will craft our show around your product or service.”

The students have already seen an EF Educational Tours commercial in the September 5th program and then they see that the “pop quiz” is being brought to them by the company that helps students and teachers go on trips around the world.
