Selling filth to kids: Channel One News urges students to buy Crashing Broadway CD.

September 20, 2012

Thank you, Channel One News, for introducing my band to middle school students.

This is Derrick Riggan the drummer for the Channel One News-advertised band Crashing Broadway.

From Jim Metrock: Channel One went into overdrive promoting the band Crashing Broadway.

1. First, school time was used every day for an entire week to play snippets of their songs. (No explicit content was played on the broadcasts and I believe Channel One only selected “clean” songs off the album The Words Crossed Out.

2. As they do with other musical acts they promote, Channel One News wrote a “news article” about the band. They don’t tell young visitors to their website that this content is an advertisement. I guess they think that kids can figure that out on their own.

3.  Channel One News also ran a contest to help sell kids on Crashing Broadway.

Here’s the ugly part: Channel One News executives knew, or should have known, this is a band known for their explicit lyrics. Children were led to believe this band did not have explicit lyrics. There is no parental warning sticker on their album because in the U.S. a parental warning about explicit lyrics is totally voluntary.

Listen for yourself. Warning: strong language
