If You Believe Channel One News…

From Jim Metrock:

I have asked Jim Ritts, Channel One’s CEO to discontinue their offensive and possibly dangerous message boards at channelone.com. After one day – no response.

Today, the AP carried this story:

In Poll, Most Oppose Gay Marriage

WASHINGTON – A majority of Americans say they don’t want laws in their states that would legalize same-sex marriages, according to a poll taken after the Massachusetts Supreme Court ruling in favor of such marriages.

The Massachusetts high court, in an advisory opinion, said last Wednesday that gays are entitled to nothing less than marriage and that civil unions will not suffice. The opinion could set the stage for the nation’s first legally sanctioned same-sex weddings by the spring.

In polling conducted by the National Annenberg Election Survey, people said by a 2-1 margin – 60 percent to 31 percent – that they oppose any similar law legalizing same-sex marriage in their states.

It is disturbing to see that on the same day, Channel One News features their children’s poll on gay marriage:

What’s going on? Channel One News would lead us, and children, to believe it’s a “toss-up” as far as gay marriage. I think it is just common sense to think that an honest polling of children would result in even more opposed to gay marriage than the general adult population. Of course, why is Channel One News even asking this question to children. It could be that some children don’t understand what Channel One is asking. Channel One has a history of being insensitive to their young audience and web visitors. (Ex. Channel One reviewed Pulp Fiction for children on its channelone.com web site.) It could also be that Channel One News, who is solely in control of this poll, is manipulating the figures to conform to their bias.

By the way, I also emailed Jim Ritts and asked him if he approves of gay marriage. After all if Channel One News is going to quiz children on what they think about a man marrying another man, we should get the C1N executives in on the action. I gave Ritts the option, which Channel One News didn’t give to kids, to reply, “No comment.” Ritts didn’t write back.

I emailed Jeff Ballabon, the PR mouthpiece for Channel One News, and asked the same question. Nothing from Ballabon.

Morgan Wandell, the man who is responsible for the outrageous content on Channel One’s web site – nada. Jim Morris the producer of Channel One News – not a word back. Derrick Shore, anchor – silence. Janet Choi, anchor – silence. Errol Barnett, anchor – silence. Josh Toole, anchor – nothing. Alexandra Montoya, anchor – no reply. Seth Doane, anchor – no reply. Lauren Jiggetts, anchor – guess?

When Channel One News dies, there will be few who will weep.
