Thieves of Time

January 4, 2005

Obligation has just reviewed November tapes of Channel One News and have found that the show is still considerably over the limit of 12 minutes. Most shows are 30 to 40 seconds over 12 minutes which is a violation of the contracts with many schools.

Many schools have contracts that state Channel One News will deliver a 12-minute daily show.

This theft of time is significant because Channel One is stealing time from schools. Public schools are government entities. This is serious business.

Obligation has documented Channel One’s theft of time for several years.

If any other school vendor did what Channel One does, they would be involved in endless lawsuits.

Channel One puts an edited version of their daily show on their web site (channelone.com). It is always exactly 12 minutes long. They never put the first section of the show on the Internet or the additional content at the end of the show. Obligation has asked Channel One to stop editing their shows on the web and let parents and others see the entire program. Channel One has failed to respond to our requests.

Citizens should urge their school board to end their Channel One contract and seek restitution from Channel One for the time they have stolen.
