A New Ugly Acuvue Commercial

September 7, 2005

Students who wear glasses must dread being forced to watch Channel One. Earlier this year we reported on an insensitive commercial for Acuvue contact lens.

This month Channel One has approved another hard-hitting Acuvue ad aimed at teens and preteens.

In this ad a male student is a relay runner on the school track team. He likes being a winner, but he can’t be as long as he wears glasses. He has to hold his glasses as he runs and of course this makes him

drop the baton. His glasses may be hurting his team and something must be done.

Here is the script and a few pictures from the actual classroom commercial.

Student runner: I love to win. When I had the glasses on, I couldn’t even see the baton half the time.

(glasses will not stay on)

I felt like my glasses were hurting the team.

(drops baton)

I wanted to do something about that. Preston told me he had these really comfort contacts called Acuvue Advance with Hydraclear.

Do they bother your eyes? “No man, they have Hydraclear. You won’t even feel them,” he said, “Come on, dude, you’ve got to do this.”

(Preston on left: “You’ve got to do this.”)

So my dad took me to the eye doctor. The HydroClear makes them really comfortable. That’s crazy. I got them for track but I’m wearing them forever.

(A much faster runner with contact lens.)
