First Graders Can Win $500

January 28, 2009

What first grader couldn’t use an extra $500?

BusRadio is currently running a contest aimed at their entire captive audience of bus riders from 18 years of age and younger.

Students down to first graders are being asked to enter the Bryant James SUPERLOVE Valentine’s Day Giveaway. We kid you not.

Elementary school students are being encouraged to enter a contest so they can win $500 cash.

Here are three audio clips of BusRadio pitching this cash award contest at bus riders. The first two are from the middle school version from January 28. The third is from the afternoon elementary school program on the same day.

BusRadio is pushing this mysterious artist named Bryant James. His music is heard exclusively on BusRadio. If you go to bryantjames.com you see you are referred back to BusRadio.com. What musician with any talent whatsoever would be an exclusive BusRadio artist? BusRadio is pounding this guy’s music into the heads of young bus riders. He is heard every day on the way to and from school.

BusRadio’s official rules are below. Some of this language could be difficult for a six-year-old to understand.

Example: "Entrants authorize the Released Parties to use their name, voice, likeness, biographical data, city and state of residence and entry materials in programming or promotional material, in any media now known or hereafter created, worldwide in perpetuity, or on a winner’s list, if applicable, without further compensation. Sponsor is not obligated to use any of the above mentioned information or materials, but may do so and may edit such information or materials at Sponsor’s sole discretion, without further obligation or compensation."

A more advanced six-year-old might – might – be able to understand that he or she is giving permission to BusRadio to use his or her picture and "biographical data" in any promotion material BusRadio wants to use. It might be more difficult to appreciate that BusRadio is saying the child’s name, voice and image can be used by BusRadio on television, on the Internet, on radio, or in print, OR in any new media that has not been invented yet and that this permission being granted to BusRadio will cover the entire planet "in perpetuity" which as any first grade student knows is a long, long time.
