Why Is T. I. Still On The Bus?

April 9, 2009

T. I. is the name of a rap singer who is little more than a thug.

T. I. however must be a personal favorite of BusRadio employees because he has been featured for months on their high school and middle school programming.

This singer is a convicted felon. In 1998 he was convicted on drug charges. He subsequently had several probation violations related to the possession of firearms and drug possession. Charges were dropped in 2006 after T. I. was arrested for threatening a man outside a strip club. In 2008 after one of his post-concert parties a member of his entourage was shot and killed and T. I. was required to testify in the murder trial. He later turned the tragedy into a big money making song called "Dead and Gone." (BusRadio, of course, played the song for young people.)

On March 27, 2009 he was sentenced to one year and one day for attempting to buy machine guns and silencers. (Something you can’t do if you are a convicted felon.) Rapper T.I. sentenced to one year on gun charges – Reuters March 27 2009, T.I.’s prison sentence: Did he get a cushy deal? – Entertainment Weekly March 27, 2009.

The following song was on this Monday’s middle school program. The song is by Justin Timberlake but it "features" T. I. He is the one talking at the end of the song. We cut the song off to minimize the file size but T. I. has a significant part of this song.

Obligation’s president Jim Metrock said, "You would think that BusRadio would finally understand that it is inappropriate to be promoting T.I. to young people especially after his March sentencing. It is outrageous for BusRadio to be filling middle school buses with the sounds of this convicted felon. This man is known for his gutter lyrics. When school districts kick BusRadio out of their buses they will be kicking this thug off their buses too."
