The Odor of Channel One News

June 13, 2010

It is utter nonsense to force schoolchildren, some as young as ten, to watch this minute of TV programming.   The vast majority of American schools have never allowed Channel One News to be shown to students or have ended their contract with the company.  Channel One’s home state of New York has outlawed Channel One News from all of its public school classrooms.

If your school still has a contract with Channel One, your school can end that contract at any time without paying any penalty.  Stop this waste of precious tax dollars and even more precious school time – dump Channel One News.

The Old Spice ad that is the focus of this whole minute of school time features a man who appears to be naked in the shower.  The marketing executives at Channel One, Kent Haehl and Paul Folkemer, believe this is perfectly acceptable for a middle school and high school audience.  They understand that even though they have a captive audience of young people, they have to get their attention.  One cannot sell products without the attention of the audience.  At the end of the commercial the man leaps out in full view to “knock out” odor and the audience sees he now has shorts on.
