Elida Local Schools drop Channel One News

September 13, 2017

From Jim Metrock:  Congratulations to the community of Elida, Ohio for removing the controversial Channel One News program from their schools.  School officials listened to parents and took the responsible step of removing Channel One’s often age-inappropriate content from classrooms.

Parents in Elida greatly benefitted from the behind-the-scenes help of the Campaign for a Commercial-Free Childhood (CCFC).  The CCFC furnished Elida school officials with concrete reasons why Channel One was not in the best interests of students.  Here is one of their letters sent to Joel Mengerink, Elida’s Superintendent. CCFC Letter to Elida.

Reminder: No educational organization endorses or approves the showing of Channel One News in classrooms.  Channel One’s own home state of New York has always outlawed the program from all of its public school classrooms (1990-present).

A plea to the Elida (OH) Board of Education.
